The collection I present to you is the result of the work I have done during the last three years of my stay in the United States.
It is a continuation of my research in the field of painting techniques, which began in Havana, Cuba, inspired by my parents during our visits to the National Museum of Fine Arts. There I discovered the amazing and fantastic world of 20th-century Cuban avant-garde painting. The freshness, the magic of the tropics, and the carefree spirit of the Cuban artist captivated me, and since then I have followed that path, now with a wider range of resources.
My beginnings were in hyperrealism about thirty years ago; soon I gravitated towards a more expressive style, using textures and all kinds of alternative materials, thus freeing myself from the dependence on imported materials.
I created my own concept of painting: "...painting is the pictorial material (oils, acrylics, enamels, inks, etc.) that comes in cans and tubes, etc.," from which art may or may not emerge, which gave me a tool to forge my own path without formal limitations.
Living in the tropics, surrounded by its lushness and ever-present magic, resulted in the work I present to you below.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed painting it.
